U.S. NWTRB Postpones its November 2025 Public Meeting

On September 30, 2025, the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board issued a summary report on its activities from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2024.

DUE TO THE ONGOING LAPSE IN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROPRIATIONS, THE MEETING SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 2025 HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 2026.

The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board will hold its Fall 2025 Public Meeting in Arlington, Virginia, on Thursday, November 13, 2025. This meeting replaces the postponed August 2025 meeting. The topic will be: DOE’s Activities, Plans, and Priorities for Management of Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste.

The Board provides a letter summarizing a small number of broad observations on DOE's program for managing the nation’s spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. The Board presents its observations to the Congress and the Secretary of Energy in formal terms as a finding, two conclusions, and a recommendation. Additional information supporting the bases for these points is provided in an attachment to the letter.
