Information Quality Act
The Information Quality Act (IQA), Section 515 of the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (44 U.S.C. § 3516 note), directs Federal agencies to ensure and maximize the quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity of information disseminated to the public.
In accordance with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) government‑wide Information Quality Guidelines and OMB Memorandum M‑19‑15, Improving Implementation of the Information Quality Act, the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (NWTRB) has established procedures to allow affected persons to seek correction of information disseminated by the Board that does not comply with applicable information quality standards.
This page describes NWTRB’s Information Quality Act process, including how to submit Requests for Correction and how such requests are reviewed and addressed.
Scope
The Information Quality Act applies to information disseminated by NWTRB to the public, including information posted on the Board’s public website or otherwise distributed as an official Board product.
The Information Quality Act does not apply to internal communications, draft or pre‑decisional materials, or information that is not disseminated to the public. In addition, the Act does not apply to information whose disclosure is restricted by law, including information protected for reasons of privacy, security, confidentiality, or other applicable legal exemptions.
Requests for Corrections
In accordance with the Information Quality Act, affected persons may submit a Request for Correction (RFC) if they believe that information disseminated by NWTRB does not comply with applicable information quality standards.
Requests for Correction should clearly identify the specific information at issue, describe the alleged error or deficiency, and explain the basis for the requested correction. Requesters should also include any supporting documentation or information relevant to the request.

NWTRB will review each Request for Correction to determine whether it is within the scope of the Information Quality Act and will respond as appropriate.
Requests for Reconsideration
If a requester is dissatisfied with NWTRB’s response to a Request for Correction, the requester may submit a written request for reconsideration.
Requests for reconsideration should explain the basis for the request and may include additional supporting information.

NWTRB will review requests for reconsideration and respond as appropriate.
Requests and Responses
In accordance with the Information Quality Act and applicable OMB guidance, NWTRB will make Requests for Correction and the Board’s responses publicly available on this page, as appropriate. Information may be redacted as required by law to protect privacy, security, or other legally protected interests.
NWTRB has not received any Requests for Correction under the Information Quality Act to date.
OMB Peer Review Bulletin (M-05-03)
Based on the review it has conducted, NWTRB believes that it does not currently produce or sponsor the distribution of influential scientific information (including Highly Influential Scientific Assessments) within the definitions promulgated by OMB. As a result, at this time NWTRB has no agenda of forthcoming influential scientific disseminations to post on its website in accordance with OMB's Information Quality Bulletin for Peer Review.
